What a way to celebrate 50 years of the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival! 🫐💙
From all the good food and local artisans to fun activities throughout the day, the festival musical, and so much happening around downtown Machias, it was such a fun weekend celebrating one of our favorite Downeast Maine traditions. And of course, the perfect way to wrap up Saturday, the Blueberry Ball with live music! 🎶
For generations, berries have been hand-raked from the barrens, and that tradition is still very much part of harvest season today. Alongside the hand rakes, mechanical harvesters now help bring in this iconic Maine crop.
The tools may look a little different, but every August, the barrens are harvested just as they have been for generations, a tradition deeply rooted in Downeast Maine.
If you are headed to Machias for the Wild Blueberry Festival this weekend, check out Wild Blueberry Land in Columbia Falls on your way through!
You really can’t miss the giant blueberry on Route 1! Pop inside to learn a little about Maine’s wild blueberry heritage, browse all things blueberry and, of course, grab a blueberry treat while you’re there.
