Burnt Coat Harbor Light
First charted by Champlain, Swans Island was called Brule-cote or Burnt Hill. It had been used by natives as a summer fishing and hunting spot. It later developed strong granite, fishing and lobstering industries.
The lighthouse is maintained by the Town of Swans Island.
The island can be accessed by a 40-minute ferry ride from Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island.
