Lubec
Lubec is the easternmost town in the U.S. and Quoddy Head State Park and its famous candy striped lighthouse is the easternmost point in town.
Right across the bridge from Campobello Island, where FDR enjoyed his summers, Lubec and the surrounding area is simply beautiful with lovely old homes and churches, art galleries, studios, gift shops, historical sites, museums, historical activities as well as music, theater, dance and performing arts.
You'll want to take the time to do one or more of several tours available, such as a bog walk to explore the nature of the area or a history tour, rich with local flavor and culture.
Water Street has eateries and ice cream places. In summer Lubec's Summer Keys program offers music camp for adults –if you don't feel you want to learn an instrument yourself, do make time to attend their Wednesday night concerts. It is a wonderful treat.
Speaking of treats, Lubec has some wonderful chocolate shops. Do not miss them.
