Frenchboro, Long Island
This small island town has hiking trails and lobsters galore. Most of the residents are involved somehow in the lobster industry and once a year in August, they invite the world to their annual lobster festival. But you don't have to wait until the festival–take the ferry from Bass Harbor and enjoy a picnic while hiking the trails, visit the historical society and the one room school (still in use) and get a glimpse of traditional Maine island life, first hand.
